How much do ChatGPT ads cost?
Every number here is dated and attributed. Where it comes from our own account, we say so.
ChatGPT ads cost about $3–5 per click for most categories in 2026, rising to roughly $8–18 in software and finance, or $25–60 CPM if you buy on impressions. There has been no account minimum since May 2026, and the practical daily minimum is around $25 in the US.
What is a normal CPC on ChatGPT ads?
| Category | Typical CPC | Note |
|---|---|---|
| E-commerce and retail | $3–5 | The broad middle of the market |
| Software and SaaS | $8–18 | High LTV categories bid each other up |
| Finance and insurance | $8–18 | Same pattern as search |
| Observed full range | $1.50–9 | Wide, and moving month to month |
One third-party account published its first fifteen days of live spend in June 2026: roughly $60,000 spent, about $1.72 average CPC, a 2.35% conversion rate and 1.49x blended ROAS. That CPC is well below the recommended range, which tells you how thin the competition still is in some categories.
Treat that as one account, not a benchmark. Daily ROAS in the same study swung between 0.2x and 2.9x.
Why do cheap bids get no impressions?
Because there is a delivery floor, and it is higher than most people’s instinct for a test budget.
In our own account, bids below roughly three dollars rarely clear it. The failure mode is quiet: you do not get an error, you just get almost no impressions. Most advertisers read that as "the channel is not ready yet" and leave.
Is that expensive compared to Google or Meta?
On a CPM basis ChatGPT looks dear. On a CPC basis it sits roughly where paid search sits, and above Meta.
| Channel | Rough CPC | What you are buying |
|---|---|---|
| ChatGPT ads | $3–5 | Someone mid-decision, in a conversation about the problem |
| Google Search | Often higher in B2B | Someone typing a keyword |
| Meta | Usually lower | Someone scrolling, interrupted |
The number that decides it is not the click price, it is the conversion rate behind it. Third-party trackers have put AI-assistant referrals at roughly twice the conversion rate of organic search. A $4 click that converts twice as well is a cheaper customer than a $2 click that does not.
What should a first test budget be?
There is no minimum, so the honest answer is about statistics rather than access.
- Under $1,000/mo — you will get clicks and no conclusions
- $3,000/mo — the floor where hint-level decisions become defensible
- $10,000/mo+ — enough to test feeds, formats and several ad groups at once
Give any test at least two weeks. One published study recommended $5,000–10,000 spread across enough days to clear daily noise, which matches what we see.

Get my ads runningWill ChatGPT ads get more expensive?
Yes, and the direction is not really in doubt. OpenAI is projecting roughly $2.4–2.5 billion of ad revenue for 2026 and reportedly hit $100M ARR within about six weeks of launch. Revenue at that scale comes from more advertisers in the same auctions.
The pattern is the one every channel has run: cheap while nobody is bidding, then not. Google in 2003 and Facebook in 2013 both did it. Prices you lock in relevance data against today are prices your competitors cannot get in twelve months.
