What changed in ChatGPT Ads Manager

In August 2026 OpenAI added oCPC bidding for product feeds, made Maximize results the default bid strategy, switched automatic advanced matching on for existing pixels, began testing multi-product carousels, and announced expansion to 31 European countries. Platform targeting, one-day view-through attribution and dynamic URL parameters also arrived.
August 2026: what shipped
| Date | Change | Who it matters to |
|---|---|---|
| Early Aug | oCPC beta for product feed campaigns, plus cloning CPC campaigns into oCPC in bulk | Retail and e-commerce with clean conversion data |
| Early Aug | Dynamic URL parameters — campaign, ad group and ad IDs insert themselves into destination URLs | Anyone who has been hand-building UTMs |
| Aug 11 | Ads live in the UK, Japan and South Korea, with Mexico and Brazil following | Advertisers selling into those markets |
| Aug 17 | Automatic advanced matching switched on for existing web pixels | Everyone running a pixel |
| Aug 19 | 31 European countries announced | European brands, and anyone selling into Europe |
| Late Aug | Maximize results becomes the default bid strategy; platform targeting (iOS, Android, web); one-day view-through attribution | Everyone |
| Late Aug | Multi-product carousel in testing; new measurement integrations (Triple Whale, Hightouch, Sonar, WorkMagic) | Catalogue retailers, measurement teams |
What is oCPC and should you switch?
oCPC is optimised cost per click. You still pay per click, but OpenAI adjusts delivery towards the clicks likeliest to convert. It launched in beta in August 2026 for product feed campaigns.
It needs a clean conversion signal to work. If your pixel is firing inconsistently, oCPC optimises towards noise. Get server-side tracking right first, then switch.
You can now clone existing CPC campaigns into oCPC, or create several at once, which makes an A/B far less painful than it was.
Maximize results is now the default. Is that good?
It depends how much you trust the auction with your money on day one.
Maximize results moves your bid automatically to spend the budget on the most results it can find. OpenAI is explicit that it does not guarantee a CPA, CPC or ROAS target. On a young channel with thin conversion data, that can mean paying more per click than you meant to.
- New account, no conversion history — start on manual CPC so you learn the real clearing price
- Established account, clean data — Maximize results generally finds volume you were leaving behind
Automatic advanced matching went on by default. What does that mean?
Advanced matching hashes form data in the browser with SHA-256 and uses it to connect a visitor to the ad that brought them. It became the default for new pixels in June 2026 and was switched on for existing pixels on 17 August 2026 unless the advertiser opted out first.
Practically: your reported conversions probably went up around that date without you changing anything. If you are comparing performance across that boundary, note it, or you will credit a copy test for a measurement change.
It closes part of the attribution gap. It does not replace server-side conversions, and OpenAI’s own diagnostics now flag dropped and disallowed events so you can see what is not landing.
Formats, bidding and pricing have moved every month since launch. Watching it is our full-time job, and we hold the account history that makes reacting fast.
Get my ads runningWhat is the multi-product carousel?
A single sponsored unit that shows several products from your feed instead of one. It is in testing for product feed campaigns as of August 2026.
For a retailer with a wide catalogue this is the most significant format change since feeds launched in June 2026. It turns one placement into a shelf, and it rewards feed hygiene: good titles, real images, accurate prices, no duplicates.
